Cirronet Acquired by RF Monolithics 08/28/06

Cirronet announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by RF Monolithics of Dallas, Texas. The transaction is expected to close in September and is valued at $24 million. RFM also announced a definitive agreement to acquire Caver-Morehead Systems, a leading producer of computerized maintenance management system software.

It’s summer time. Why not having a look at something refreshing, with some out-of-the-box thinking?
A European project called Embedded WiSeNts, whose purpose is to promote research in topics related to embedded systems for WSNs, publishes some of its studies online. One of the reports focuses on future applications on a 10-year timeframe. Quite academic for some, but definitely worth a look…
Gartner’s Hyped Technologies for 2006 08/10/06

As pointed out today by the WSN Blog, Gartner released its annual report on hyped technologies with the following comment about Sensor Mesh Network technologies: “The market is still immature and fragmented, and there are few standards, so suppliers will evolve and equipment could become obsolete relatively rapidly. Therefore, this area should be seen as a tactical investment, as mainstream adoption is not expected for more than ten years.” Rather careful statement…
Tendril Secures $5.25 Million in Venture Funding 08/8/06

Tendril announced today that the company has secured $5.25 million in Series B funding to continue its growth as the leading provider of network operations platform software for developing and deploying Wireless Sensor and Control Networks.
They also hired a new CEO, Adrian Tuck, whom we know well from his former position as Executive VP at Ember. Good luck!

That’s what a new report by WTRS, “Residential Wireless Control Network IP and Patent Report”, claims. With such a title they are pretty sure to drive much attention to their report… Is this a real threat or just the usual buzz around companies fighting against standardization initiatives? Not very clear so far… Inputs or comments welcome…
